FLOWERING MAPLE

$9.99

Latin Name: Abutilion spp.

Description: A large group of flowering plants in the mallow family. They can range in height from 18 inches to ten feet in their native habitats, however, will stay much smaller when kept indoors as a houseplant. Although flowering maples are not related to maple trees, their leaves do resemble those of true maples. Flowering maples are upright, branching plants, often with brittle stems. They showcase solitary pendent flowers that are borne on long, dainty stems. The lantern-like blooms open up to downward-facing cup o bell-shaped flowers with five overlapping petals, very similar to that of its relative the hibiscus. Generally, the flowers are yellow or orange, however, differently coloured varieties do exist.

Watering: Water when the first few inches of soil becomes dry. Should not be allowed to dry out.

Growth Rate: Moderate
Shape: Upright
Sun or Shade: Full to dappled indirect sunlight
Difficulty level: Easy
