DODECATHEON APHRODITE
Latin Name: Dodecatheon meadia 'Aphrodite'
Description: Commonly known as a 'Shooting Star' this unique specimen features bright magenta flowers with five upward-facing petals each and a cluster of yellow stamens at the base. The flowers emerge clustered on stems, with each stem bearing 10-20 intense pink flowers, which rise over narrow, finely-toothed foliage that can grow up to 25cm long. Flowers emerge in the late spring, and then once they have spent, the plant goes dormant the rest of the season. Best grown in a moist, humus, rich, well-drained soil, in partial shade. When planting, the crown must rest at or slightly above the surface to ensure survival.
