Latin Name: Malpighia emarginata


Description: This tropical, fruit-bearing shrub or small tree is grown for it's handsome, glossy, green leaves and tarte edible fruits, which are very rich in vitamin C. Can grow up to twelve feet tall in its native habitat, however, it will not achieve these heights when grown as an indoor plant. The flowers, which appear in the summer months, are rosy pink and nearly one inch in diameter. They appear from the leaf axils in clusters of three to five. The blooms eventually give way to bright, cherry-red fruits. 

Watering: Allow the first two inches of soil to dry out in between waterings

Growth Rate: Fast
Shape: Mounding, Upright  
Sun or Shade: Full sun, will tolerate partial shade
Difficulty level: Moderate
