Description: Remarkably adaptable, this deciduous shrub/small tree provides multi-season interest to gardens. In the late winter/early spring season, an abundance of small, round groupings of miniscule bright canary-yellow flowers emerge on the bare branches and remain for several weeks after blooming. Attractive, glossy red, cherry-like fruits appear after the bloom period has finished. These fruits are edible, and are commonly used in syrups and preserves. Dark green, oval-shaped leaves fill the branches of the tree, turning purple in the fall before shedding to the ground.
