Dark, red globe shaped roots have a small crown and small taproot. Quick to mature, sweet, slightly earthy taste, perfect for canning and cooking.
Beets thrive in sandy loam with a pH of 6.0-7.5. Important to fertilize with a soil acidifier.
Sow seeds 1.2cm (1/2") deep and 2.5cm (1") apart in two week intervals.
Avoid sowing after mid July. Thin the young seedlings 7-10cm (3-4") apart to ensure enough room for root production.
Overwatering may lead to excessive leaf growth and small, pale roots.
